Enjoying National Camping Month at The Village of Zephyrhills!

Enjoying National Camping Month

Have you been camping lately? June is National Camping Month, and it’s time for an adventure! If you’re not planning to head away from The Village of Zephyrhills this summer, we can bring the great outdoors to you! Situated in the lush countryside between the cities of Tampa and Orlando, The Village of Zephyrhills is a mobile home community designed for seniors and veterans (55+) that offers country charm along with city convenience. Here are our four favorite ways to make at-home camping part of your summer plans:

  1. Go Offline.

Turn off the TV, put down your phone, and go outside. Studies have shown that our reliance on technology is causing us to be disconnected from nature, so this is a good opportunity to reconnect with the great outdoors! In fact, research also suggests that spending time with the flora and fauna can help you lower stress, improve your memory, and reduce anxiety. Even if you’re not having the full camping experience, your mental, physical, and social health can still benefit just by enjoying the sunshine!

  1. Appreciate the Outdoors

In a recent study conducted by OnePoll for the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation, 58 percent of the people shared that they did not appreciate nature like they should have before the COVID-19 pandemic. Now is your opportunity to change that statistic!

Find a quiet spot under a shady tree to sit, breathe, and contemplate nature’s beauty. If you like to write or sketch, bring a journal with you! If you are a resident of The Village of Zephyrhills, take an extra moment to consider your surroundings – our community is near the spot where Zephyr-like breezes blowing across the rolling hills inspired the city of Zephyrhills’ name!

  1. Get Active.

Zephyrhills is known as the City of Pure Water, Tree City USA, and the Skydive Capital of the World, so there are many outdoor activities to experience here! Whether you’re interested in bird watching in a park, taking a leisurely nature walk, or just enjoying a sunny day by the community pool, you can do it in Zephyrhills.

Just remember to plan your activities, so you can avoid the mid-day heat! Wear light, sun-reflective clothing and always use sunscreen (at least 15 SFP). Drink lots of cool water, so you stay hydrated. Also, seek out shady trees or breezy areas while you are outside! Especially if you are a senior, you can still have fun in the sun – just don’t forget these safety precautions!

  1. Camp Where You Are.

Your backyard – or even your living room – could be a camping destination. All you need is a tent and sleeping bag! Or you can mimic the camping experience with a cookout under the stars – The Village has a BBQ area that’s perfect for grilling! Don’t forget the s’mores!

However you choose to spend National Camping Month, take note of Florida’s tax holidays, too. “Freedom Week,” a tax holiday on outdoor gear and recreational activities, lasts from July 1 to 7, 2021. The purpose of this tax holiday is to encourage people to explore the outdoors as COVID-19 restrictions ease. Items used for outdoor recreation such as tents, sleeping bags, sunscreen, grills, recreational water supplies, and fishing supplies will also not be taxed during Freedom Week.

From the sparkling pool to the outside BBQ area, The Village of Zephyrhills has the amenities to ensure you are a happy camper. Our aim is to help our residents live an active, carefree lifestyle in a safe and secure environment. Our motto is that you can “Live Your Way” at The Village!

The Village of Zephyrhills features one- and two-bedroom mobile home units in a community designed for seniors and veterans (55+) – and we also have a limited number of RV lots, too!
